Fort George National Historic Site of Canada served as General Isaac Brock's base, the headquarters of the Centre Division of the British Army and of the British Indian Department at the beginning of the War of 1812. It was captured by an American army after a fierce battle in May 1813 and occupied by them until December of that year when the British forced them from Canadian soil.
